It is important to know when we need to seek treatment for our mental health. Everyone has times where they feel depressed, anxious, want to be alone, or have trouble thinking clearly.

When these symptoms begin to interfere with everyday life or they begin to turn into thoughts of harming yourself or others, you should schedule a psychiatric assessment.

At Forest View, everyone who calls the hospital for help is screened by a licensed, trained professional. These professionals will ask about your history, what kinds of thoughts and feelings you are having, and are you in a safe space to care for yourself.

There are a lot of misconceptions about coming in for a psychiatric assessment. Patients worry it will mean that a person will be automatically admitted to the hospital. This is not true – instead, they evaluate each patient’s needs, challenges, and current mental status. Then they make recommendations for a level of care to best treat each patient’s needs. This could be partial hospitalization, in-patient hospitalization, or a referral to an outpatient therapist.

Assessments at Forest View Hospital are free and they do not bill insurance for these services. Anyone can make a referral such as family members, community agencies, doctors, hospitals, or the patient themselves.

If you or a loved one is in need of additional mental health services, call 1-800-949-8439 or visit forestviewhospital.com. The assessment and referral team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
