CROCKERY TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Charitha Aella, a 25-year-old resident of Lansing, Mich., died Sunday night as a result of injuries sustained in a crash that occurred Friday night.

At approximately 7:48 p.m., the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office responded to a crash on westbound I-96 in Crockery Township.

Investigators say a driver in a 2006 Chrysler 300 was traveling in the right lane of the westbound lanes of I-96 when he struck the rear of a 2008 Toyota Camry. The driver of the Toyota was pulled over to the shoulder with its four-ways activated when the crash occurred. Three of the occupants, including Aella, were transported to Hackley Hospital.

Speed and alcohol do appear to be a factor in the crash.
