An insurance company recently crunched some data from their incident reports and Federal Highway Administration fatality data to rank drivers across the country, and Michigan drivers came out pretty good.
Michigan drivers are ranked as the fourth best drivers in the country, according to Quote Wizard. The best drivers in the country ahead of Michigan are Rhode Island, Florida, and Mississippi. Nevada is ranked fifth. The worst five states are Utah, California, Virginia, Maine and Nebraska.
The company says the rankings are a product of a sum of weighted instances including total accidents, speeding tickets, DUIs, citations, and fatalities.
The company says that our fatality rates are actually quite low compared to some other states, and our driving is “commendable.”
In comparison, Ohio drivers speed a lot and are #7 in the country for worst speeding offenders. Ohio’s fatality rates are also higher.
So, we have that going for us.
