ZEELAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A bicyclist is dead after being hit by a car late Thursday evening, police say.
It happened shortly after 7:00 p.m. at I-196 Business Loop and 88th in Zeeland Township. According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Deputies, a 17-year-old driver did not see that a man was riding his bicycle in the crosswalk until it was too late. The teenager could not avoid a collision. The victim, identified as John Pastunink, 56, was thrown from his bicycle as a result of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police say the victim was wearing a helmet. The crash remains under investigation.
