HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A dog is dead and its owner was taken to the hospital after both were struck by a car Monday morning.

It happened around 8:50 a.m. along Quincy Street near 140th Avenue in Holland Township.

James Stelter, 66, of Holland, and his dog were walking along the bike path when they were struck by a Chevy Aveo, driven by Michelle Trajo, 43, of Holland Township, according to a press release from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

Trejo told police she suddenly lost control of her vehicle and couldn’t control it.

Police said Stelter suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Holland Hospital for treatment. His dog died at the scene.

Trejo was not hurt and was cited for careless driving.
