Counterfeit money being passed around Battle Creek area

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Police in Battle Creek are urging businesses to be on the lookout for fake money being circulated around the area.

Over the past several weeks, police have received numerous complaints about counterfeit $100 bills being passed around, and are clearly marked ‘for motion picture use only.’ Police are also noticing an increase in fake $20 and $1 bills.

Those kinds of fake bills are readily available on sites like eBay to be used as props instead of real currency.

Police are suggesting businesses — and consequently, customers who receive cash/change — stay extra vigilant in exchanges of currency. Click here for more information on U.S. currency.
