GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Grand Rapids Police are extending their recruitment efforts to provide a salary to students while they attend the Police Academy.
The City will sponsor a group of recruits to go to the Grand Valley State University Police Academy that starts in May 2017. Those who are eligible will be hired as a City of Grand Rapids employee and will be paid a starting police recruit officer's salary while attending the 16-week academy at GVSU. After the academy, recruits have another eight weeks of training with GRPD before becoming a sworn Grand Rapids Police Officer.
