MUSKEGON, Mich. — A 13-year-old Lansing boy was taken to the hospital Thursday after being pulled unconscious from Lake Michigan.
Muskegon County Sheriff Dean Roesler says the near drowning happened at about 5:19 p.m. when Jamarion Gomez, 13, was swimming with three cousins at Pere Marquette Beach. His mother tells FOX 17 News that a wave came over him and knocked the wind out of him. He blacked out and was floating in the water for nearly half an hour.
Other beach goers noticed him face down in the water near the shore, Roesler said. Two off-duty nurses performed CPR on him and he was rushed to Hackley Hospital before being airlifted to a Grand Rapids hospital. He is in critical condition.
Roesler says the boy has no known medical history.
