KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. — The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday morning requested that all motorists avoid a stretch of Interstate 94 in Kalamazoo County due flooding caused by rain.
Multiple vehicle crashed on both eastbound and westbound I-94 from Portage Road to the Galesburg exit in Comstock Township were reported around 10:20 a.m. Saturday. Authorities requested that all motorists “avoid the area to prevent further traffic backups and collisions for the next hour until officers can get the accident scenes cleared.”
The traffic problems were caused by heavy rain showers passing through the Kalamazoo and Galesburg areas.
Meanwhile, at the same time the city of Portage closed down South Westnedge between J.L. Hudson Drive and Romence due to flooding and asked motorists there to “please seek an alternate route.”
That stretch of South Westnedge was reopened to traffic Saturday afternoon.
