GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.-- The Detroit Red Wings have partnered up with Meijer to hold their very first Street Hockey Summer Tour. FOX 17 caught up with them in Grand Rapids to discuss the program.

The summer program began on July 17 in Williamsburg and has traveled all around Michigan says Event Marketing Assistant for the Red Wings, Ryan Stankus, "We started on our tour last Monday, we were up in Acme, and we had three stops last week, we have the three stops this week and then we will be finishing up on August 11th in Allen Park back down in the Detroit Metro Area."

The goal of the program according to Stankus is to not only spread the Detroit Red Wings brand around Michigan, but to go through fundamentals and help kids from the ages 7-12 hone in on their hockey skills.

Meijer also have goals of their own, with the idea in mind that kids will learn about the importance of healthy eating habits and staying hydrated, especially while playing sports.

The other stops after Grand Rapids include Holland on July 27, Kalamazoo on July 29 and Lansing on August 2. For more information on how you can sign up, and the other stops on the tour, you can visit theStreet Hockey Summer Tour website.
