WEST MICHIGAN — After a breezy and cool day with a few showers, today looks more tranquil as an area of high pressure slides overhead. This high will bring light winds and partly to mostly sunny skies.
Sunshine will be most abundant near the lakeshore, but clouds may be a bit stubborn to the southeast of Grand Rapids and to the east of Kalamazoo. Still, it looks like a much brighter day than yesterday no matter where you are in the FOX 17 viewing area.
As the above mentioned area of high pressure moves to the east of us tomorrow, we’ll pick up a warm, moist southerly flow during the day. This will bring in fuel for thunderstorms… Possibly as soon as late afternoon. However the better chance of storms will be in the evening, and some of the storms could contain wind gusts approaching 60 mph along with some small hail. This is how our Future Track HD depicts our Sunday evening around 9pm:
A weak cold front will pass on Monday, which will end the storm threat by noon or so. This front will temporarily bring back cooler, less humid air for Monday night, Tuesday, and Tuesday night. After that, a steamy ridge of high pressure will develop over the central and eastern U.S. This will bring in some of the hottest air we’ve seen so far this season by Thursday and Friday.
