GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Local brewery, Brewery Vivant, will celebrate a sustainability milestone Wednesday as they have recently installed 192 solar panels atop their production brewery and pub.

Since opening in 2010, Brewery Vivant has made it a goal to achieve 10%  renewable energy from onsite sources. With this new installation, the brewery is projected to produce 20% of its energy needs from the sun.

The brewery teamed up with a non-profit group called the Green Brewery Project and Michigan-based Renovo Energy, who have helped many local breweries try to obtain their sustainability goals. Other breweries they have helped are Short's, Dark Horse and Arbor.

There will be an official ribbon cutting and toast at the pub next week with Mayor Bliss and other public officials to celebrate with Brewery Vivant staff.

$1 for every beer sold during the event will go towards the West Michigan Environmental Action Council and its "Teach for our Energy Future" curriculum.
