Great Lakes Garrison of the 501st Legion: Star Wars fans raising money for charity

They're bad guys doing good; a group of people who have a huge love for Star Wars, but a bigger love for the community.

Great Lakes Garrison of the 501st Legion is a volunteer organization that helps raise money for local charities by dressing up as characters from Star Wars.

Great Lakes Garrison is just one of the many subdivisions in the country that take part in the 501st Legion. The legion is a nation-wide volunteer organization with dozens of troupes planted all across the United States.

The group is constantly invited to come help out with public and private events. They don't charge fees for their appearance, but they welcome donations which will then go to charities like the Make-A-Wish Foundation or the Starlight Starbright Children’s Foundation.

If you want to see them in action, their next appearance will be at the West Michigan Whitecaps game on Saturday, July 9.

If you'd like to join the Great Lakes Garrison Troupe, or want to request an appearance for a charity event, head to their website and find a troupe near you.
