KENT COUNTY, Mich. — A teen driver is facing several charges in connection with a fatal April crash in Alpine Township.
The Kent County Sheriff’s Department says that Armando Mendoza is charged with reckless driving causing death and three counts of reckless driving causing serious impairment.
The April 10 crash claimed the life of 16-year-old Alyssa Eggerding. Mendoza and three other teens were seriously injured.
Police say Mendoza was driving at a high speed at about 3:45 a.m. April 10 when his vehicle crashed into a tree near Vinton Avenue NW and Nine Mile Road NW.
According to court documents obtained by The Grand Rapids Press,one of the crash victims told officials that she saw the car’s speedometer reach 110 mph prior to the crash. The Grand Rapids Press reports that Mendoza is scheduled to be back in court July 11.
