HASTINGS, Mich. - Two people were arrested in Rockford, Illinois Tuesday morning after allegedly beating a 66-year-old woman and locking her in a bathroom.

The incident allegedly happened Monday at a home in Assyria Township in Barry County.

Investigators say that the woman was assaulted by the two people, one of whom is a relative.  Gail Robinson, a friend of the victim, identified the suspects as Cory Wagner and his girlfriend Tiffany Chanthavong.   Wagner is the victim's son.

Robinson said she still can't believe what happened just a few doors down from her house.

"It's horrible to me and I don't know how he could do that to his own mother," Robinson said.

The victim was then allegedly threatened with a knife, bound with duct tape and tied to a chair in a locked bathroom.    The two people then allegedly took her credit card and her car.

The woman was able to eventually escape and call for help.  She was taken to Bronson Hospital in Battle Creek for treatment.

The two suspects were arrested Tuesday morning in Rockford, Illinois and the stolen vehicle was recovered.  They are facing charges that include Assault with Intent to Murder and Unlawful Imprisonment.  Their names will be released after they are returned to Barry County and arraigned.
