Memorial Day Picnic Games on the Cheap

Posted
and last updated

The weather is getting warmer and Memorial Day weekend is fast approaching, which means you're going to need some fun games to play outside with the kids.

But fun doesn't have to mean expensive. All of these games only require items you can find around the house or purchase at your local dollar store.

Target Practice

  • Sponges
  • Chalk
  • Water

Draw a three ring target with number values inside each circle.  Then soak the sponges in water so they are easier to throw.  Have each person take turns throwing sponges until everyone runs out.  Tally the points and the person with the most points wins!

Backyard Bowling

  • Six 2 liter soda bottles
  • Soccer ball
  • Water

Take six 2 liter soda bottles and fill them each with an inch of water. Then arrange them in a triangle formation, and roll the ball into the pins from a distance. Whoever knocks down the most pins is the winner!

Tic-Tac-Toe Frisbee

  • 5 frisbees (per person)
  • Masking tape

Create a tic-tac-toe grid with the masking tape on the grass.  Stand about 10 feet away from the grid, and take turns throwing frisbees into the grid. When you fun out of frisbees, collect the ones that didn't land in a square on the grid and start over. The first person to get three in a row wins!
