WALKER, Mich. - A man and his dog escaped a house fire in Walker Thursday morning.
The fire apparently started while the man slept in the home at Richmond Street and Manning Avenue. He was able to get outside with only minor burns.
A passing security guard saw the fire and stopped at the scene. The man tried to go back into the home to rescue his dog, but the guard kept him from doing so. The dog did escape uninjured.
The fire was contained to the bedroom of the home. The cause is still under investigation.
