PORTAGE, Mich.-- An investigation continued Friday after a 43-year old woman was stabbed repeatedly in her own home early Thursday morning. A friend of the victim was able to identify the woman as Victoria Enos.

Enos called the police around 12:30 am Thursday morning saying she had been stabbed multiple times and her attacker ran from the scene out of a rear door. More than 40 hours later, police are still on the scene investigating the home in the 10000 block of Cora Drive.

“We are continuing to process the scene here. It’s a complicated scene which is why we’ve been here since we were called over 24 hours ago to collect the evidence and review what we’re finding and also to try to follow-up on some leads and theories," said Senior Deputy Chief of Portage Police Nicholas Armold.

Enos's three children and mother-in-law were asleep inside when the attack happened. Police are taking their time to process the scene: combing through evidence, following leads and trying to make sense of it all.

“We’re starting to  move in the right direction" said Armold.

Police have been able to communicate with the victim, but can't confirm a description of the attacker at this time.

“She has been talked to by our detectives to the extent that they can talk to her," said Armold. "Obviously having surgery and those types of injuries, she’s not fully recovered just from the surgery and the event itself.”

It is unclear if the victim knew her attacker, but police don't believe there is an immediate threat out there in the community.

“As it relates to this offense, at least right now, there isn’t anything that points us to some serial criminal out here that people need to be aware of, but I can’t 100 percent say everything I know at this point," said Armold.

Court documents are also shedding light on a part of the victim's personal life. Victoria Enos had filed a personal protection order in Kalamazoo Circuit Court against her husband, Richard Enos, in March.  Its unclear whether or not he is involved in this case at this time. Police say a dog was also inside of the home at the time of the incident, but was unharmed and is safe with the family.
