At this time the suspect is only being identified as a 24-year-old black male.

They say around 8:52am Tuesday morning, the Huntington Bank inside the Trust building in downtown Grand Rapids was robbed. The suspect reportedly pointed a black “6mm BB gun” at a clerk and took off with an undetermined amount of money.

A Grand Rapids police officer, Sgt Tom Warwick, who happened to be on his way to the Kent County courthouse, which is near the Huntington bank, actually saw the suspect as he exited the bank.  The 9-year-veteran of the GRPD sensed something suspicious.

We’re told Sgt Warwick saw a man leaving the building hiding something suspiciously under his shirt.  He stopped the man, ordered him to the ground & eventually discovered what had just occurred.  The man was then taken into custody without incident less than 50 feet from the bank.

No one was injured in the incident.

The Grand Rapids  Police Department’s ‘Major Case Team’ and the FBI are investigating the incident.

Anyone with additional info is asked to contact the GRPD at (616) 456-3400 or Silent Observer at (616) 774-2345.
