GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A Grandville man died Wednesday afternoon after crashing into the wall on U.S. – 131 in downtown Grand Rapids.
The crash happened in the southbound lanes of U.S. – 131 about 4:15pm just south of I-196. Michigan State Police say that Lester Ott, 63, apparently lost control and went off the roadway to the left and hit the median wall. Ott was not wearing a helmet, according to police.
Ott was a teacher-consultant with MySchool@Kent – a division of Kent ISD – and worked with high school-aged special needs students. Principal Cary Stamas said there was counseling support available today for students and staff.
Witnesses told police that no other vehicles were involved in the crash. Police are still investigating.
