SPRING LAKE TWP, Mich. — The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department says a motorcyclist died after being hit by a car early Friday evening.
It happened on 168th Avenue just north of Taft Street around 6:18 p.m. Ottawa County Sgt. Jay Douglas said in a news release that Mark Snyder, 59, was driving his 1997 Yamaha motorcycle north on 168th Ave when a Ford Focus pulled out of a private driveway. The car, driven by Eva Meekhof of Spring Lake, was turning south onto 168th and hit the motorcyclist nearly head-on.
Snyder was thrown off the motorcycle from the collision. Douglas says witnesses treated him at the scene until he was taken to Hackley Hospital in Muskegon, where he died from his injuries. He was wearing a helmet.
Meekhof told police she didn’t see Snyder when she turned onto the street.
Snyder was from Fruitport. Deputies say the crash is under investigation.
A separate motorcycle accident happened earlier Friday in Walker around 4 p.m. Walker Police say a 67-year-old motorcyclist was traveling westbound on 3 Mile near Bristol when a van turning left into a parking lot hit him. The motorcyclist was also wearing a helmet, and suffered non-life threatening injuries. This crash remains under investigation.
