Grand Rapids bar has license suspended after illegal euchre tournament

Posted

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A bar on Plainfield Avenue had its liquor license temporarily suspended after state investigators say it hosted an illegal euchre tournament last year.

The door on the Rezervoir.

The Rezervoir – previously known as the Sazerac Lounge – had its liquor license suspended over the weekend after the Michigan Liquor Control Commission (MLCC) say they have evidence of unlawful gambling that took place in the bar; a $5 euchre league held in February 2015.

A hearing was held two weeks ago on the investigation, but according to state documents no one representing the bar showed up. The Rezervoir said in a posting on their door that they missed the hearing due to a misunderstanding: “We were under the impression that the situation was resolved per our attorneys.”

Other allegations brought forward by the MLCC include failing to keep their liquor license prominently seen; not notifying the MLCC about possible ownership changes; and allowing a person whose name is not on the license to operate the bar.

The bar is expected to re-open in some capacity Thursday afternoon, per their Facebook page. Bar management and their lawyers are meeting with the MLCC Wednesday.
