GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – As we continue our Forever Home series we introduce you to Andrew, 15, who has one simple wish that would change his life forever: “to find a family.”
Andrew is a breath of fresh air: the type of person who naturally finds the good in things. Though he’s never lost his positive spirit between moving between group foster homes, Andrew said he’s hopeful he will finally have a family of his own.
As a high school freshman, Andrew said he would like to become a meteorologist. Tuesday he toured FOX 17 and shadowed staff during the Midday newscast.
“My favorite subject is right now is social studies, and I like to watch CNN student news,” he said.
From learning about forecasting to shaking hands with all of the crew working behind-the-scenes in production, Andrew put on the producer headset. He was a natural; and so much so that he said he is now considering producing, too.
“I just really want to be a control room person: a producer,” he said afterward.
With these career goals comes his optimistic attitude.
“A positive, encouraging, self-behaving kid,” Andrew said, describing himself.
Meanwhile, Andrew said he never stops dreaming of being adopted.
“I hope for a mom and dad,” said Andrew. “I was hoping to have two brothers and two sisters.”
As he pictured how he would spend his days together with his family, Andrew said he would like to do "a lot of fun activities, like every single day,” including going to Michigan Adventure.
Above all, Andrew said having a loving family is all that matters.
“I hope that someone would care for me. Thank you,” said Andrew.
Adopting Andrew through the Michigan foster care system is free of charge. According to adoption specialists at his agency, Orchards Children’s Services, the adoption process typically takes nine months.
