GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Former Grand Rapids Police Officer Ryan Bruggink is facing child pornography charges.
The new charges from the Kent County Prosecutor's Office come less than a week afterhe was found guilty of sexual assault.
Bruggink is now being charged with child sexually abusive commercial activity, possession of child sexually abusive material and using a computer to commit a crime, the prosecutor's office said Monday.
According to court documents, Bruggink received sexually explicit photos from a girl who was then 17 years old. He allegedly shared those photos with others.
According to the prosecutor's office, these new charges stem from the initial sexual assault investigation involving a November 2014 incident at his ex-girlfriend's Wyoming home.
Bruggink was found guilty of third-degree criminal sexual conduct in connection with that case. He was found not guilty of home invasion and two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
He was charged with coming to the home unwanted, forcing his way in and sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend. Bruggink maintained throughout the trial that the woman let him into her home, and that the two had consensual sex the night in question.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on the criminal sexual conduct charge May 3.
