KENT COUNTY, Mich. — Kent County deputies say they have a suspect in custody after he allegedly brandished a firearm at a Cascade Township business Wednesday.

The man – who has not yet been identified by the sheriff’s department – is being held at the Kent County Correctional Facility on charges of fleeing and eluding a police officer, fourth degree, and retail fraud, third degree.

Deputies say after brandishing his weapon, he was spotted in a vehicle on 28th Street near Patterson. The suspect drove away when officers attempted to stop him. During a brief chase, the suspect reportedly threw his firearm out the window. It was recovered and determined to be a BB gun.

Just before the chase, a manager at the Tropical Smoothie on 28th Street said a man wearing Cookie Monster pajamas walked in and showed a gun to the person behind the register. He left the store soon after.

The man is expected to be arraigned Friday.
