CLEVELAND (WJW) – More than 30,000 people have signed a petition to allow firearms at the Republican National Convention this summer.
The RNC comes to Cleveland July 18 to July 21 with many of the main events taking place at Quicken Loans Arena. The Q does not allow guns or other weapons inside.
“In accordance with the Ohio’s ‘concealed carry’ law and the right for private entities to ban handguns on their premises, firearms and other weapons of any kind are strictly forbidden on the premises of Quicken Loans Arena,” the arena’s website said.
The petition, started on Change.org earlier this week, had about 32,700 signatures Sunday morning. On Thursday, about 4,000 has signed it.
The petition calls on the Republican National Committee to explain why a venue that does not allow guns was selected for RNC. It also wants the Q to suspend its policy and the National Rifle Association to condemn “the egregious affront to the Second Amendment.”
“Without the right to protect themselves, those at the Quicken Loans Arena will be sitting ducks, utterly helpless against evil-doers, criminals or others who wish to threaten the American way of life,” the petition said.
