GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The trial of a former Grand Rapids police officer accused of sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend continued Wednesday.

Ryan Bruggink is on trial on charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and home invasion.  Bruggink is accused of raping his ex-girlfriend at her Wyoming home last November.

Testimony Tuesday focused on physical evidence collected by investigators. The nurse who examined the victim after the alleged attack testified, as well an officer from the Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit who showed the court text messages and phone call history between Bruggink and the victim.  He also showed messages and her contact information, which Bruggink had deleted from his phone.  These messages took place between November 24 and December 1 of 2014, which is when the alleged attack took place.

The trial is taking the day off on Thursday and will resume Friday.  The prosecution may finish their presentation on Friday, but may continue into next week.
