THREE RIVERS, Mich. – Extra police were on hand at Three Rivers Middle School Wednesday after a threat of a shooting was made on a social media platform.

Three Rivers Police say they were notified by school officials at about 10:30pm Tuesday night that a person made a threat of coming to the school at noon on Wednesday to commit a shoothing.  The threat was made over the “Kik” messenger app.

School officials and police found several middle school students who participated in the chat forum and began interviewing them. Investigators determined there was no viable threat to the students or the school, but police maintained a presence at the school today as a precaution.  School was not closed.

Police are still investigating and the person or persons responsible for the threat could face criminal charges and expulsion from school.

Anyone with information should call Three Rivers Police at 269-278-1235 or central dispatch at 269-467-4195.
