High winds howl through West Michigan

West Michigan – A powerful storm system brought overnight thunderstorms and very strong winds today. (Photo from Mike Borstler at Grand Haven).

The storm system tracked from eastern Iowa last night and was located over the Upper Peninsula this evening. The low will slowly track into Canada during the next 24 hours.

Peak wind gusts ranged from 45-55 mph this afternoon and early evening. The highest reported so far was 57 mph at Jamestown in Ottawa county. The High Wind Warning and High Wind Advisory will expired tonight at 10 pm as the winds slowly diminish overnight.
