GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Friday was an exciting day for The Boys and Girls Club of Grand Rapids. They announced this years winner of the '2016 Youth of The Year award.'

Out of three nominees, Ana Sosa, 15, was announced as the winner.  Her mentors describe her as a girl with strong character and leadership qualities.  She's also seen as a mentor to the younger members in the club.

The Boys and Girls Club is a program that provides opportunities for youth that are at risk.

In addition to a $2,000 dollar scholarship, Ana won the hearts of the room with her speech about family and the importance of working together with others to make a difference in the world. She will now be competing in the State competition in Troy, MI that will take place in early April.  If Sosa wins that, she will then head to Regionals, and then to Nationals.

The Boys and Girls Club of Grand Rapids is one of 17 in the state, and 4,000 in the nation.  The organization serves over 4 million children.
