GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Valley State University is moving forward with developments planned for the Belknap neighborhood, according to a statement.

On Friday,  the university’s Board of Trustees approved two memos regarding the property the school owns in the northeast side of Grand Rapids, near Hastings Street and Clancy Avenue.

The first memo included plans for vacating an alley on the property, planning for affordable housing, and reviewing the process for building plans when they’re developed. The second approves the use an urban planning consultant to ensure that any future building fits in with the rest of the Belknap neighborhood.

At this time, there is no timetable for construction. The university is moving into the planning stages for a building that will expand their health campus, the Center for Health Sciences, located just south of the Belknap neighborhood.
