BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — A 15-year-old has been detained in connection with a Wednesday fire at a Battle Creek home.

The fire was reported just after 12 p.m. Wednesday at a home on Gardenia Street near Hubert Street, according to the Battle Creek Fire Department.   The unoccupied home sustained roughly $31,000 in damage.

The cause of the fire was determined to be arson, according to a release from the fire department.  The fire was started on the home’s front porch with lighter fluid.
