GRANDVILLE, Mich – The Grandville high school wrestling team has been ruled ineligible to compete in the upcoming state wrestling tournament by the Michigan High School Athletic Association. According to the MHSAA, the team exceeded the limit of regular-season days of competition during the 2015-16 season. Teams are permitted to compete in no more than 14 events during the regular season. Grandville is following the MHSAA handbook and filing a formal appeal.
The team was scheduled to compete in the district round at Hudsonville last Thursday, but were withdrawn by the MHSAA.
Grandville student-athletes who did not exceed the limit of 14 days of competition during the regular season are permitted to enter the MHSAA Individual Wrestling Tournament.
The Bulldogs are ranked number five in the state for Division 1. Grandville is filing a formal appeal of the MHSAA’s ruling and fans have set up a facebook page to support the team.
