OKINAWA, Japan – A Muskegon Marine was surprised last week with a promotion in a very special location.
Cody R. Gannon was promoted to sergeant on February 2nd while his company of Marines was visiting Iwo Jima. According to USMCLife.com, Gannon and his company is deployed in the Pacific from Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.
According to the site, Gannon graduated basic training in 2013 and was awarded a meritorious promotion to private first class. He late was pinned to lance corporal before being promoted to sergeant last week.
Gannon was promoted on Invasion Beach, where U.S. Marines landed during the Battle of Iwo Jima in 1945.
