MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say a Georgia state trooper was shot in a police chase in suburban Atlanta.
The Georgia State Patrol department said in an email that the trooper and a suspect were shot in the pursuit Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 75 in Marietta.
The trooper and suspect were taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital. Their conditions were unknown but Jen Talaber, a spokeswoman for Gov. Nathan Deal, says the trooper was conscious. The names of the two have not been released.
Marietta Police spokeswoman Brittany Wallace says the shooting caused all but two lanes of the busy highway to shut down.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says it will continue to investigate the shooting.
