Man in custody for weapons, drugs following traffic stop

PINE GROVE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man is arrested for having a gun and drugs in his possession following a traffic stop.

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy pulled over a Silver Toyota for a broken headlight in the 8000 block of M-40 in Pine Grove Township around 8 p.m.

According to that deputy, he smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver initially denied that any marijuana was in the vehicle but admitted to it shortly after.

The deputy searched the vehicle and found pot, a glass smoking pipe, a a loaded semi-automatic hand gun and few rounds of ammunition.

The driver, a 38-year-old man with prior felony convictions was arrested for charges of felon in possession of a hand gun, felony firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and felony possession of marijuana.

He is currently being lodged at the county jail.
