GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – A woman from Grand Rapids is recovering after falling on an icy pier and injuring her hip.

Grand Haven Department of Public Safety responded to the call just after 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

According to officials, a 62-year-old woman fell on ice and severely injured her hip while walking on the south pier. They said she was almost at the end.

Officials said the woman was at risk of sliding off the ice and into the water, but personnel managed to stabilize her and secured her in a life jacket.

She was taken to a local hospital.

Grand Haven DPS urge people to stay off the ice and piers.
