GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- A family new to Grand Rapids is still feeling the love after a surprise encounter with the Grand Rapids Police Department back on December 22nd.
Theresa Floyd says she and her family were taking a walk down Madison Street when they were stopped by 5-year veteran of the GRPD, Officer Ben Hawkins.
At first Floyd says she was nervous, but calmed down once she realized what was happening. Officer Hawkins revealed the stuffed animals, hats, gloves, and candy he had inside his police cruiser. He gave each of her three children a stuffed animal and other trinkets... all in the spirit of Christmas.
Floyd says it's a moment she'll never forget and that it made this holiday season extra special for her family. She also adds that her three kids were very excited to interact with the officer and that they continue to talk about that surprise to this day.
