GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - After 12 years as mayor of Grand Rapids, today is George Heartwell's final day in office.
Heartwell posted a farewell message on the City of Grand Rapids Facebook page Thursday morning. Heartwell was not able to run for another term in office due to a recent change to the city charter that was voted on by city residents. Rosalynn Bliss takes over as mayor starting January 1st.
Before Heartwell's 12 years as mayor, he served as City Commissioner for eight years in the Third Ward.
