DETROIT (AP) — Authorities say Detroit gas station customer fatally shot a man who tried to rob him.
The shooting was reported around 1 a.m. Tuesday at the station on the city’s west side.
Station manager Jay Jawad tells The Detroit News that one of the station’s regular customers was buying cigarettes when the robbery attempt took place.
Jawad says the would-be robber pointed a gun at the customer, who pulled out a gun and shot the man. Police questioned the customer afterward.
WWJ-AM reports multiple shots were fired in the fatal shooting.
Results of the police investigation likely will be turned over to prosecutors for review of whether the shooting was justified.
