ANTWERP TWP., Mich. – Investigators are looking for the person who stole a vehicle from a Van Buren County auto dealership and crashed it into a vineyard.

The incident happened sometime between Monday evening at 6:00pm and Tuesday morning at 8:30am at Lawton Auto Sales on M-40.

A Van Buren County deputy was called to the scene Tuesday morning and found the business had been broken into and vandalized. Windows on the building had been broken and a fire extinguisher had been discharged inside.  Keys to several of the vehicles on the lot had also been taken and thrown in a puddle in the parking lot.

About the same time, a 2006 Ford Escape was found by Lawton Police officers in a grape vineyard a short distance away.  It had been stolen from the sales lot and abandoned. The vehicle had dents on both sides and the electronic controls inside had been destroyed.

Investigators are still looking for information on a suspect in the crimes.  Anyone with information should call the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office at 269-657-3101, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-342-7867 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
