SHELBY, Mich. – Residents in the village of Shelby are being advised to boil their water before drinking it.
The village administrator, Chelsea Stratil, sent out the advisory Thursday afternoon. She says during routine testing, the village water system tested positive for Coliform Bacteria. The bacteria is an indicator that there may be other bacteria in the water system.
Residents on the Shelby water distribution system should not drink the water, make ice, brush teeth, wash dishes or prepare food with boiling it first, or should use bottled water. The village says they are working with the state DEQ to resolve the problem.
It is not known how long the boil water advisory will be in effect.
