GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The man suspected in killing a Grand Rapids woman and setting her and a car on fire Monday is being charged with Open Murder.
The Kent County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed Tuesday morning that Donald Spice is being charged in the murder of Lori Vargas. He is expected to be arraigned later Tuesday.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s department was called to the report of a car fire on I-96 eastbound in Wright Township about 2:30am Monday. They found the body of Vargas in the car. Shortly after, they say they found Spice walking on Ironwood Drive. Deputies determined he was connected to the burned vehicle and taken into custody.
According to Grand Rapids Police, the Spice told the Ottawa County detectives that he had gotten into an argument with Vargas in the 1100 block of Emerald Avenue NE. He allegedly confessed to killing the woman and driving the body out to I-96 and setting the car on fire.
