Bicyclist in Grand Haven found in ditch with head injury

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — A 57-year-old Spring Lake man was found with severe head injury in a  water-filled ditch Wednesday in Grand Haven.

Officers say they were called to Harbor Island Drive north of Coho Drive at about 10:45 a.m., where they found a bicyclist partially under water in a ditch.

According to a release, investigators believe the man crashed or fell off his bike on or north of the U.S. 31 lift bridge.  Officers also say that the man’s bicycle had damage to a wheel and pedal.

Witnesses told police they saw the man riding on the bike path from Spring Lake over the draw bridge, according to a release.

The man was not carrying identification and was not able to speak to officers.  He is currently in critical condition.
