DETROIT, Mich. — The best of the Detroit Tigers’ prospects called West Michigan home this season.

Whitecaps outfielder Mike Gerber was named the Tigers Minor League Player of the Year on Wednesday, while teammate and reliever Joe Jimenez garnered the franchise’s Minor League Pitcher of the Year honor.

Gerber hit .292 (with a .355 OBP) while collected 54 extra-base hits and driving in 76 runs. The Creighton alum also score 74 runs and stole 16 bases.

Jimenez, Detroit’s only representative at the MLB Futures Game in July, is widely considered to be the Tigers’ closer of the future. He went 5-1 with a 1.47 earned run average and 17 saves out of the Whitecaps bullpen in 2015, striking out 61 batters in just 43 innings.
