KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A police officer was injured while making an arrest on Wednesday. The Kalamazoo Valley and Narcotics Team were tracking possible drug activity in the 2000 block of Sunnyside Drive in Kalamazoo.
Police said authorities witnessed drug transactions from two suspects, and that’s when they began following them.
Officers tried to pull over a the suspect’s vehicle in the 1500 block of Main Street before they turned onto Hinsdell Plaza. The suspects jumped out of the moving vehicle, which then rolled into a fence. Authorities chased down one of the suspects, who then assaulted an officer.
Police were also able to retrieve a large amount of suspected crack cocaine.
A 28-year-old from Kalamazoo was arrested and was expected to face drug charges as well as resisting arrest.
The other suspect, a 25-year-old man from Kalamazoo, escaped.
The injured officer was taken to a Kalamazoo hospital for treatment of possible broken bones.
