WYOMING, Mich. – The 8-year-old girl who was hit by a car on 28th Street Saturday evening has died.
Wyoming Police said that Melissa Guzman died Sunday evening from the injuries she suffered Saturday evening on 28th Street.
Guzman and her two 11-year-old brothers were crossing 28th Street east of Wyoming Avenue from the south to the north when the crash happened. Witnesses told police that all three were running across the street, but the two brothers stopped in the left turn lane and Melissa continued on, in front of a 2003 Chevrolet driven by a 54-year-old Wyoming woman.
Officials also said she and brothers were walking home from Park Center Lanes bowling alley across the street on 28th Street when they were hit. They were trying to cross to Wyoming Ave. which is where either family or relative lives in the 2600 block of Wyoming Ave. It’s all within just a block or two of each other.
An official with the child’s school released a statement on Monday:
“Everyone here is extremely saddened. Our hearts go out to family & friends in this time,” said Jennifer Hoff with National Heritage Academies.
Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. The investigation into the crash is continuing and anyone with more information should call Wyoming Police at 616-530-7300.
