Local student turns vision of handicap accessible playground into reality

Posted

COOPERSVILLE, Mich. — Local high school student Tyler Young is watching his dream come to life during a community build event at Veteran’s Park in Coopersville Saturday afternoon.

The community has gathered together to help Young transform an average park into a handicap accessible playground with special items such as a wheelchair swing donated by Lori’s Voice.

Saturday’s community build was a day Tyler has waited months for.  He says it all started as an Eagle Scout project inspired by his brother who suffers from a terminal illness.

After spending most of his free time fundraising throughout the city, he finally collected roughly $28,000 to put this plan into motion.  He’s hoping this new playground can help people with all different types of abilities come together and enjoy.

He’s hoping the playground will be ready for a grand opening sometime next week.
