GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A gunman who barricaded himself inside a home in the 200 block of Orchard Hill Ave. SE is now in custody, according to the Grand Rapids Police Department.

GRPD was asking citizens to avoid the area due to a situation involving a gunman while they worked to contain the situation. The man was taken into police custody around 9:30 Sunday evening following a brief standoff.

Police said late Sunday evening the gunman did surrender peacefully to officers a short time after the standoff started.  He exited the home unarmed and was taken into custody.  Police say they later found a handgun inside the home, which was confiscated.

No injuries were reported.

Police are still investigating what led up to the incident.
