GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.– Big changes are coming to the Gerald R. Ford International Airport through funding by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters announced Friday that Kent County will receive $3,987,379 in funding for improvements to the airport.

Officials expect to use the funding for reconstruction of an existing runway and to expand a terminal building to enable more efficient movement of passengers.

Stabenow says the investment will make travelling to and from West Michigan safer and more efficient as well as encourage businesses to invest in the West Michigan region.

Senator Peters added that safe and reliable air travel is critical for economic growth and job creation.
